Bryce Canyon amphitheater looks like on fire. Red, orange, and white rocks create spectacular views. And you should add it to your 2023 vacation plan because Bryce celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year! The erosional force shaped the colorful limestone rock into bizarre shapes, including slot canyons, windows, and spires called “hoodoos.” These incredible structures are formed over millions of years due to erosion, freezing and thawing, and water movement. Bryce Canyon in Utah has unique worldly geology. We pretty much stayed at Best Westerns near each park. We were on a car tour from Salt Lake City, around past Moab, to the Grand Canyon, then back north through the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument to Bryce, then Zion and back to SLC. I think this is the closest a non-climber can get to mountain climbing. Angels Landing is an amazing hike, if you want a physical challenge and are not afraid of heights. Also, the park shuttle runs from the small town at the gate of the park and there are a number of interesting looking places in that little town, although we did not get to tour it. Just more variety and unbelievable vistas. To me, I liked that park more than Bryce and found it to be the highlight of our trip. It was featured on the NAT GEO show about the park.īryce feels small, and the main viewing areas are right off the parking lot, although I am sure you could spend many days there hiking around the odd formations that seem to be the centerpiece of the park.ĭon't forget Zion NP if you are in that area. Don't recall the name, but, the hike to the cowboy kitchen they have protected is prefect. Even then, the short hikes off the main road were all great. We did not allow much time for Canyonlands, only there for a day. Lots of different terrain, down into a stream/small river basin. We did this hike, outside the park and really liked it: We enjoyed pizza at a local shop on the main drag.

If you are not camping, you will stay there. That said, Bryce is small, not like the vast spaces in GlacierĪrches has a number of very accessible sites and plenty of short or long hikes. Any of those parks is great and you could spend many days in each, depending on what you want to do. /r/Yosemite ← Yosemite NP in California./r/PacificCrestTrail ← Pacific Crest Trail./r/IsleRoyale ← Isle Royale National Park./r/Algonquinpark ← Algonquin Provincial Park, Canada./r/Adirondacks ← Adirondack state park in NY./r/Adrenaline ← Mostly Videos of high-adrenaline sports./r/Shoestring ← Travelers on shoestring budgets./r/Slackline ← Core and Balance training, balancing on webbing./r/Overlanding ← Vehicle camping in remote places./r/Axesaw ← Hilariously Ineffective Camping Gear./r/Backpacking ← For the international or urban traveler who has supplies on their back./r/BikePacking ← Biking and camping off road. What mountain are you on?
